Hello! After much thought and consideration, I decided that I want this blog to be a way for fans, buyers, fellow sellers, friends, and family to see Sassy Cat Sewing behind the scenes. I'm hoping it may even help new sewers to see some cheap, easy ways to sew your designs into life, as I'm not a professional nor is Sassy Cat Sewing a full-time job!
Either way, I decided to start with a gift I sewed for my Mother's birthday back in September. My Mom is a huge fan of adorable pigs, and we have them all over the house, so I decided to sew her a cute piggy car ornament for her beloved Monte Carlo. (Sewing in your blue plaid jammy pants is the most comfortable way to sew!)
My process is pretty... prehistoric. I start by making a drawing....
The numbers are for each color of fabric I'm going to use! Then I cut out each piece from each color of fabric needed. I love to use fleece or flannel for these small things because they stay together decently without fraying too much!
There! All of the details are handsewn onto the piggy's face. I traced the outline of the piggy onto the pink fabric with a regular black ink pen. I realized afterwards that traces of the pen will be on the piggy once it was finished, but that's the process of making mistakes and learning from them in sewing!
Then I matched the piggy's face with another sheet of pale pink fabric, with the "right" sides facing each other and the "wrong sides" facing out. Because this project was so small, I couldn't use my machine, and I had to hand-sew it together. I sewed the red ribbon in-between the two "body" pieces of fabric.
As you can see, the pen lines are a little visible but nothing too major! :) The red ribbon looks secure!
Time to stuff! I use Hypo-Allergenic Premium Polyester Fiberfil by Morning Glory for all of my stuffing, which you can purchase at any Wal-Mart! I stuffed this little guy very lightly so he didn't plump out and expose the pen lines further.
Voila! I sealed him up using a nearly-invisible ladder stitch. There is a great YouTube video found here that can teach you how to sew a ladder stitch. They are a huge help when it comes to sealing up your stuffed animals!
I hope you enjoyed this little behind-the-scenes look into Sassy Cat Sewing!
